On May 9, 2024, I moderated an event for DAWEG Victoria and the Victoria Branch of Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC) at the University of Victoria. Through this event, we shared our common knowledge about historical events and existing organizations that influence the experiences of women in engineering, geoscience and other fields related to STEM.
DAWEG Victoria advocates and supports the Development and Advancement of Women in Engineering and Geoscience. Today, it is a reboot of the original DAWEG that arose following the massacre of 14 female engineering students at École Polytechnique de Montréal (now called Polytechnique Montréal ) as a Division of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (now EGBC).
The acronym stood for “The Division for the Advancement of Women in Engineering and Geoscience.” With permission, the name was changed so we could continue with the gorgeous logo and the long-standing acronym. For more on the history of DAWEG, check out my post on daweg.ca: the DAWEG of 2024. We’ve also posted a fact paper here: History of DAWEG/WiEG.
Thanks, and hope to see you in the forum!
